How to Type Assamese

Introduction

Nowadays, there are a number of tools/apps available for writing Assamese on computers and mobile devices. You may use whichever you like. However, on this page, we will show how to type Assamese using a popular and free tool called Rodali (ৰ'দালি) based on the modern Unicode standard.

Step 1: Downloading Rodali

• Visit the website https://eprazukti.com/rodali/ and download the appropriate version of Rodali.
• If you want to use the online version without downloading and installing, click Rodali Online.

Step 2: Installing Rodali

• Locate the downloaded setup file and open it.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
• Launch Rodali from the Start menu or Desktop icon after installation.

Step 3: Setting Up Rodali

Open Rodali and configure the settings by selecting your preferred typing mode (Phonetic or Inscript). By default, the mode is "phonetic". Switch the language from English to Assamese.

Step 4: Typing Assamese Using Rodali

Using Phonetic Typing Mode:

• Type Assamese words in English, and Rodali will convert them.
• Example: Typing "aami" will display "আমি", typing "kintu" will display "কিন্তু".

Using Inscript Typing Mode:

• Inscript follows a fixed keyboard layout requiring memorization.

Step 5: Switching Between Assamese and English

Use the shortcut key (Ctrl + Space) to switch languages or click on the language name.
